Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter -
Instituut voor Atoom-en Molecuulfysica, Utrecht, The Nederlands:

The Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) promotes, co-ordinates and finances fundamental physics research in the Netherlands. It is an autonomous foundation responsible to the physics division of the national research council NWO. Since it was founded in 1946, FOM has promoted fundamental physics research of technological relevance as well as scientific interest, initiating and stimulating new scientific developments. About 80 percent of FOM-supported research is carried out in programmes which are of fixed duration and budget. The remaining 20 percent consists of new projects which are either too immature or unsuitable to be integrated in programmes. FOM is a partner in a number of European projects, including MIMIC.

Its function in the project is to investigate the chemical changes in exposed egg tempera paint materials using DTMS of the complete paint sample or ESI MS of the extracted lipid fractions. The latter will give a good representation of the oxidised lipids that have formed as a consequence of light, ozone or NOx So2 exposure. The MS data can be converted into chemical change i.e process data using principal component analysis.
